Openreadingroom.com is a work in progress primarily aimed at creating a central repository of Tamil literary works in the public domain for free download. Close to a thousand works are now permanently available at a single resource for the benefit of the Tamil diaspora scattered across the globe.

The project was conceptualized and commissioned by Ramesh Chakrapani, a Singapore-based journalist and Tamil enthusiast.

The free Internet Tamil library includes a wide range of narrative prose such as the novel, the short story, autobiography, travelogue, commentary, children’s literature and translation. Many of the writers featured here played an integral role in the evolution of contemporary Tamil literature. We hope you find the content useful and the web site easy to navigate.
