தாகூரின் கவிதை முன்பு ஆனந்த விகடனில் வெளிவந்தது
தனிமையில் நடந்து செல்
உன் அறைகூவலை யாருமே கேட்காத போதும்,
உறுதியுடன் தனிமையில் மேலே நடந்து செல்;
பயத்திலே சுவரைப் பார்த்து மற்றவர் குமைந்து நிற்கையில்
ஓ! துரதிர்ஷ்டப் பிறவியே!
உன் மனம் திறந்து வெளியே
தனிமையில் நீயே பேசிக் கொள்;
வனாந்திர வெளியை நீ கடக்கும்
பொழுது, மற்றவர் உன்னைத்
தனியே விட்டுப் போனால்,
ஓ! துரதிர்ஷ்டப் பிறவியே!
முட்களின் மீது ரத்தக்கறை படிந்த பாதையில்
உறுதியாக நடந்து செல்!
தனிமையில் நடந்து செல்!
புயல் சூழ்ந்த பயங்கர இரவில்
வழிகாட்டும் ஒளியை
மற்றவர் உணக்கு உயர்த்தத் துணியாத போது,
ஓ! துரதிர்ஷ்டப் பிறவியே!
அடிக்கும் மின்னலிலும் மழையின்
அவதியிலும் உன் இதயத்தையே
நீ விளக்காக ஏற்றிக் கொள் –
நீயே உனக்கு வழிகாட்டும்
ஒளியாக விளங்கிக் கொள்!

If they are afraid and cower mutely facing

O thou of evil luck,
open thy mind and speak out alone.
